Hilary began her career somewhat unintentionally. After applying for jobs as a youth leader, which is akin to finding a unicorn, Hilary found herself working as an in-home family therapist for a children's transitional home. She was tasked with integrating teenagers back into their family of origin after having been removed and placed either in foster care or a residential facility. To Hilary's surprise, she actually developed a knack for effectively communicating with her young clients. However, the drawbacks to the position, such as being on call 24/7 and traveling, led her to seek a more structured position. Hilary obtained a position doing therapeutic day treatment in the school setting.
Working in the schools provided Hilary with a wealth of knowledge about behavior management and the value of collaborative care. Hilary was able to gain experience working with various mental health conditions and behavioral issues. It was during this time that Hilary discovered her passion for working with individuals on the autism spectrum. She enjoyed teaching them social skills and helping them improve their communication. Hilary also showed strengths in assisting young children with controlling their impulses and managing their emotions.

Hilary decided to go back to school to get a Master's of Professional Counseling degree. Part of her degree program required completing an internship and accruing hours of direct and indirect counseling. Hilary completed this requirement through a nonprofit, faith-based counseling center. Her time training opened her to new experiences and brought awareness of other areas of interest.
Hilary discovered that she could be a safe place for clients to process thoughts and explore questions related to their faith. Hilary's graduate program offered education in Christian counseling and increased her awareness of an unmet need in the Christian community. Hilary strives to walk with clients as they explore their own beliefs and how they can align them with their thoughts and behaviors.
In Hilary’s current private practice, she serves clients from various walks of life and assists them in accomplishing their goals. Hilary continued pursuing education in treating individuals on the autism spectrum and obtained certification as an Autism Spectrum Disorder Clinical Specialist. Hilary continues to research and gain direct experience working with individuals on the autism spectrum in hopes to further sharpen her skills.
