Types of Providers
Licensed Professional Counselors
A Licensed Professional Counselor has to have completed the following:
- Obtained a Master's degree from a CACREP-approved program
- Completed 3,400-hour residency in VA
- Successfully passed Licensure exam
Resident in Counseling
A Resident in Counseling is someone who has completed the following:
- Obtained a Master's degree from a CACREP-approved program
Residents are under the supervision of a licensed provider until they obtain the hours needed to apply for licensure and pass the required exam.
Clinical Interns
A Clinical Intern is someone who has completed the following:
- The first full year of a master's program
A Clinical Intern is under the supervision of a licensed provider and is also completing the final few semesters of their master's program. They are gaining in-the-field training experience to prepare them for entering Residency.
- The Guiding Star is a comprehensive outpatient mental health counseling practice comprised of a stellar team of dedicated and empathetic professional counselors whose primary purpose is assisting our clients in elevating themselves to reach for the stars.
- The Guiding Star is owned by the members of True North Counselors and hopes to expand in the upcoming years.
- True North Counselors operates as a DBA (Doing Business As) for four private practices. The Guiding Star is part of True North but functions independently for hiring purposes.
- True North Counselors was created to allow providers to work together while having more autonomy.
